A player plot for February! Getting Kilgraved
Hey guys, I've been figuring out what to do with Kilgrave this month and now have a player plot in the works! Since being murdered by Jessica Jones (
underachievement) early on in the game, Kilgrave has been using his mind control to make people protect him and to spy on Jessica. As of right now, he's got Kara (
iisupergirlii) under his control. She's been told to keep a low profile and not give herself away, but a few characters are aware of the situation and intend to do something about it. Which brings us to a plan.
Below is the order of events that has been worked out so far. Some of it is closed, but a lot of it is open to plotting so do read on if you're interested!
NB. This plot is mod-approved and shouldn't interfere with any of the mod plot happening this month.
Timeline
1) Rescuing Kara - 12th-13th Feb [CLOSED]
Frank (
oorah) and Jessica carry out a plan to rescue Kara either the night of the arrival log or the day after. Unfortunately while Kara is reset and successfully rescued, Kilgrave goes to the reset room looking for her and finds Frank instead. He controls Frank and makes him tell him everything that happened. This will take place in the mod arrival log and is a closed plot.
2) Getting Kilgraved - 17th Feb [SEMI-CLOSED]
By this point Kilgrave is paranoid that Jessica is plotting something against him and he wants revenge for losing Kara. So he uses Frank to trick several other characters into meeting with him in order to control them as well. The following characters will be controlled along with Frank: Faith (
rockypath), Kara. They will be ordered to tell him everything they know, gather intelligence without giving themselves away, help/protect him if he gets attacked, and kill anyone who tries to attack him or rescue them. This will be a closed log.
However, if you play a character that a) Kilgrave already knows is vulnerable to his mind control and b) could be tricked by Frank into coming to the meeting and you'd like to add to Kilgrave's minion count, then let me know!
3) Taking down Kilgrave - w/c 18th Feb [OPEN]
Jessica and anyone else she's plotting with enact a plan to take down Kilgrave. Most likely this will involve killing him or getting him killed by the Sound Eaters and then grabbing him from the reset room while he's still woozy and doesn't know what's going on. However, he will have his merry band of mind-controlled minions to protect him from anyone trying to kill him so they will need to be dealt with as well.
The characters controlled by Kilgrave are being told to act normal. There shouldn't be anything noticeably off about their behaviour. But if your character is close to one of the mind-controlled characters and you want a reason to bring them in on the plot to take down Kilgrave, then you might see that they disappear somewhere at least every 24 hours (Kilgrave needs to renew his control) and they will also spend some of their time guarding him, though again this won't be obvious since the characters will either watch him from a distance or claim that they're watching him to make sure he doesn't hurt anyone else. Essentially, they're double agents pretending to be on Jessica's side while really working for Kilgrave.
Kilgrave's plan will be to sabotage Jessica's plan, whatever it is, and he will use anyone he is controlling to help him do that. Killing him or killing any of the characters under his control will break his hold on them.
So in order to take down Kilgrave you need to find some way of containing him and stop those helping him. What the plan is and how it all goes down is completely open at this point! This is where we would love for other characters to get involved. Can your character plot with Jessica to stop Kilgrave? Do you want to fight with a mind-controlled Supergirl? We're looking for ideas!
4) Aftermath - by 28th Feb [OPEN]
The 28th is the date of the mod plot log and I'm expecting Kilgrave to have been stopped and all the characters under his control freed before this point. I am willing to have Kilgrave potentially sit out of the mod plot if necessary.
In terms of what happens to Kilgrave after he's caught, I am willing for him to be killed once (not multiple times) and/or imprisoned on a temporary basis. Long-term, he needs to learn how to get on without controlling people – Jessica's presence has him paranoid and acting out of hatred and fear. Ideally, I would like the outcome to be some kind of truce, even if it's one where Kilgrave is watched to make sure that he doesn't abuse his powers. I'd love to hear from any characters who could help facilitate this! Right now Kilgrave is only willing to play ball if Jessica does, and Jessica ain't playing ball.
There will also be multiple characters recovering from Kilgrave trauma, so you guys can do whatever you want with that.

Recruiting science guys, prison guards, patrol pals
#1: Vaccination: Jess wants someone to take her blood and immunize people against Kilgrave's influence with it. This is the most non-violent plan for her own sake, to avoid a witchhunt.
#2: Temporary imprisonment: Since the favoured plan above will take some time to brew, Jess can muzzle him and lock him up in an abandoned section of Reims but she is not playing keeper to him 24/7's, so anyone who is immune to him and Not A Fan, sign up for the world's worst chore wheel.
#3: Drugs: Kara has been sabotaging her search for sufentanil but now maybe she can cut that out, idk this is the least fun one.
#4: Got another idea? Hit me.
Also if your character wants to carry on Frank's legacy and pull off their own plan and get in her way, that's fine with me! But lemme know OOC so we can work it out and I can stay on top of things. Ultimately Jess needs to play an important role in shutting Kilgrave's willynilly power usage down, for her own playability. PP or add @

And as a final note for everybody, Jessica's job is now patrol, tasked with monitoring the community for threats from within. She fought the law, the law lost, now she's the law. (Yeah, she's as concerned about this as u should be.) She's also keeping this on a need to know basis. So far no one needs to know.

Opportunity knocks? Maybe?
Which brings up: Tony will have told Kilgrave he's taking care of Jessica. While he can just go away quietly into the night and leave things to Team Jessica, this does make an opening for some options I figured I'd toss out. With Tony switching sides there's the opportunity for him to set a trap for Kilgrave. Obviously it won't be easy or go without a hitch, Kilgrave isn't stupid.
PLAN A: Tony tells Kilgrave he has Jessica incarcerated somewhere. Kilgrave will demand to see her to verify, most likely with some allies in tow. This frees Jessica and allies to get sneaky, maybe pick off any of his people who aren't immediately with him (scouts or known quantities, etc). Also set a trap whether it's something like homemade knockout gas/violence/leading them down a hallway, locking them in and blasting the Top 40 from a stereo and letting Sound Eaters do their dirty work then picking the group up after in the reset room, etc.
PLAN B: Tony tells Kilgrave he killed Jessica. Kilgrave splits his forces sending some to pick up Jessica from the reset room. Except it's a trap and said folks get locked in the room (don't say the natives never taught you anything during your time in Reims). This leaves Kilgrave with a weakened force ripe for an ambush. To up the odds further people impersonating the imprisoned folks/not present known mindcontrolled coming back with false reports (if you want to be Kara we will find you a mini skirt and a blonde wig, if you want to be Frank there will be an hotdog suit, scout's honor), Tony can tell Kilgrave he's under arrest and read him his rights why not, insert other diversionary tactics here, can be a thing.
PLAN C: insert some other plan, plz do spitball me ideas. We've got a vast amount of skills and talents to work with and even if Jessica likes to lone wolf it, Tony's all about the networking.
COROLLARY: tech peeps! Tony is already making a list, points at eyes, points at you!! If you want to help falsify evidence (looped video feeds of Jessica “imprisoned”, or her “death”) or make traps or help temporarily soundproof areas on the sly so this doesn't end in a Sound Eater bloodbath or other things I'm not thinking please let's do talk. I want to Avengers iniative all of you okok.

Just spitballing here everyone join in as you do.
Also David is a new arrival and Frank's best friend in canon, so he will notice immediately that Frank is acting off. He may attempt to knock him out and/or contain him somehow from reporting to Kilgrave.
I want to know everyone's thoughts, just a few ideas that popped into my head and we can play around whatever you guys want to do with your characters individually! Or if we want to involve more people so Kilgrave has more minions in the endgame. Sorry if this is a bit disjointed.

LAsT rIGHTs aka endgame + vaccine plot!
VACCINE PROTOTYPE OPT-IN and MARCH FORECAST
TIMELINE: The vaccination is being developed as of now and the first prototype can be offered to the following characters who have been involved in the Kilgrave plot at the end of February, if you would like to have it: Frank, Rey, Poe, Faith, Kara, David. The vaccine will be tested by these characters and further refined in March. This can be handwaved.
After it has been tested, from April onwards Jessica will offer the vaccine only to her close CR and characters she considers to be especially vulnerable e.g. women, children. Taking the vaccine is entirely optional and opt-in only: you can decide whether or not you want your character to receive the offer and/or take the vaccine. Only limited quantities of the vaccine are available so it should be easy to handwave if you don't want to opt-in.
IC IMPLICATIONS: Jess will have contacted your character privately (can be threaded via inbox or handwaved, lmk) to offer them the vaccine, warning them that testing has been limited with no time yet to observe the long-term side effects, and cautioning them to keep it to themselves to prevent sabotage by Kilgrave (handwaved until plot relevant). Some important things to note:
• You can decide for your character to be offered the vaccine and decline to take it for any reason, but if you do then your character must a) agree to keep the vaccine a secret and b) stay away from Kilgrave at all costs. ICly, Kilgrave needs to not suspect that a vaccine exists for as long as possible, so the circle of characters who know about it needs to be small.
• If Kilgrave knows that your character is vulnerable to mind control (i.e. he has successfully compelled your character before) then if your character takes the vaccine they will need to either stay away from Kilgrave or pretend that they are still vulnerable to him if he does give a command in order to prevent him from becoming suspicious.
• If Kilgrave doesn't know that your character was vulnerable to mind control and they take the vaccine, you're pretty much good to go. Caution is still advised in this situation, however: if a lot of characters suddenly turn out to be immune to Kilgrave's control even though he can't see any reason for them to be, he is going to get suspicious which again is something we're looking to avoid.
None of the above is meant to exclude characters from interacting with Kilgrave if you want to! Everything can be discussed on a case-by-case basis. They're more just general notes to bear in mind so that we can control the situation ICly and keep the status quo with Kilgrave not knowing about the vaccine for as long as we choose.
OOC IMPLICATIONS: Any characters declining due to OOC preference can simply handwave the IC reasoning unless they would rather thread or work out the details OOC; it won't impact their CR with Jess unless that's the agreed upon outcome. Kilgrave's ignorance of the vaccine and its limited distribution will allow his character space to try and behave in accordance with his probation and Jess's character peace of mind with her close CR and new opportunities to expand beyond that circle. The vaccine will not be widely distributed or made public until such a time as a new plot merits it. For now, we're going with the timeline outlined above and keeping the distribution limited so that players can choose whether or not to opt-in.
To keep track of who's medically immunized and who's not in perpetuity, please reply to this comment to opt-in! Include any details you feel are necessary, including if you'd rather thread or handwave it. If opting out, no need to respond unless, again, there are IC consequences you are interested in between Jess and the character.
